This organization was created by the grandparents of a child who suffered from Autism. Autism Speaks aims to raise public awareness about Autism and its effects on individuals and families. The organization is also involved in medical research looking into the causes, prevention, treatment, and a possible cure for Autism.
To meet this goal the organization offers Autism Speaks Family Services Community Grants. Organizations which are interested in applying for these grants must address one of four areas of need: education, recreation and community activities, equipment and supportive technology, and young adult/adult services (2005-2010).
