The Carl and Lily Pforzheimer Foundation, Inc.
This foundation gives nationally to libraries and other organizations, however exceptions are no religious or politicial organizations, no individual grants, no building funds, and no loans. Their largest endeavor involves their American and English literatre collection at NYPL, but they give substantially to other organizations, too -- especially universities, high schools, hospitals, and arts organiztions.
Subjects of interest include: Adult education--literacy, basic skills & GED; Arts; Education; Education, reading; Government/public administration/Higher education; Language/linguistics; Libraries/library science; Literature; Nursing care; Performing arts; Performing arts, theater; Public affairs, citizen participation; Secondary school/education; and Youth development, citizenship.
Types of support include: Endowments, Fellowships, Internship funds, Matching/challenge support, Professorships, Program development, Publication, Scholarship funds, and Seed money.
No application form is necessary. However, a letter or proposal should include qualifications of key personnel, brief history of organization and a detailed description of the project and amount of funding requested. There is no deadline, but the board meets in April, October, and December with notifications following the meetings.
